The Seven of Cups

seven of cups

The devil doesn’t come dressed in a red cape & pointy horns.
He comes as everything you’ve ever asked for.

The Seven of Cups suggests that those pretty images in your mind must be dealt with. You can no longer leave them in the clouds of your dreams, they must be dealt with in the world of reality. She warns you to be careful of wishful thinking & pleasing illusions in the choices you’re facing. This Gypsy is a dreamer who can see beauty & excitement as well as fearful trials to come. She urges you to stop being so caught up in your fantasies, you might never be able to move forward or decide if those dreams are worth making into a reality.

Therefore, The Seven of Cups knows dreaming is a beautiful thing & can provide inspiration for action. She also knows you must abandon your ‘castle in the sky’, fall from the soft comfort of the sky & either lay bricks to build those castles in the real world or if you must set those pretty floating castles on fire. A decision must be made, even if you are paralyzed by the choice, or fearful of the road to come after you pick your path. Remember, not all things are as they appear to be, move with caution.

The risk of illusion runs high with the Seven of Cups. Make sure you are taking the steps to protect yourself against hazy fantasy like thinking or everlasting daydreams. She screams at you to avoid intoxication & escapism. Once you try to enact your tempting fantasies you leave yourself open to inevitable disappointment. You’ll soon realize that vision simply does not work as it did in Wonderland.

The Seven of Cups may also be a wishful card. After a long stroll in the desert, you suddenly stumble upon this incredible vision. Laying at your feet are seven beautiful cups filled with sparkling crystals, which represent wealth, beauty, success & options to choose from. Is it an illusion? Which cup should you take? Can you walk away carrying them all? Will the weight of all seven keep you from returning from your journey? Not every cup may be filled with a positive result, a hidden snake may be curled up inside the prettiest of cups. These cups can be a mixed blessing. So, dear one, be careful what you wish for.

Temptations linger inside, making you vulnerable to being seduced by the one cup containing the poisonous snake of jealousy & cunning. Being a card from the Suit of Cups, the temptation is likely to be sexual or emotional in nature- things that seem innocent & pleasurable at the time. More times than not the vast majority of cases, the pleasure gained temporarily is far outweighed by the lasting consequences.

Our Passion for Purple♥

Purple

Purple

“All the other colors are just colors, but purple seems to have a soul. When you look at it, it’s looking back at you.”

If you’re anything like the Twigs’ girls, the color purple is an adored & important color to have in your life & environment.

Purple is broadly associated with mystery, creativity, peace & calm, magic, spirituality, protection, dignity, wisdom, ambition, sensitivity, imagination, gracefulness, and nurturing feminine energy, and that’s just a start.  It’s no wonder that we hold our purple close to our hearts in times of confusion, stress & sadness.

When it comes to stones & crystals, purple serves just as diverse a crowd and offers its energy from several standpoints. Considering that purple is made from mixing cool blues with fiery reds, it makes sense that this intriguing color can offer us calmness & an influx of positive energy all at once.

Amethyst, for instance, is the ultimate stone of calm and clarity.  While amethyst promotes encouragement and protection, it is fundamentally a stone of spiritual solace. Those who suffer from addictions (far & wide) and those who struggle with anxiousness or insomnia are prompted to cling to an amethyst for more than just its relieving abilities – but for its abilities to delve deeper into the root of the problem. What is making me anxious? Why are our minds so active that we can’t shut them off at night? This gorgeous purple stone aids in seeking the answers from within ourselves; exactly where they lie.
*Interesting tidbit* Amethyst, Charoite, & Lepidolite are all purple stones and are all used in conditions relating to sleep, insomnia, and night terrors.

Getting deeper into the spiritual side of purple, it’s pretty important to mention the Third Eye & Crown Chakras. The auric color of these chakras is most commonly represented as purple or indigo. But why? We all know that each chakra has its own auric color association – but the association with these cool colors being connected to the third eye & crown chakras is important. These chakras, more than any other, are related to our spiritual being rather than physical. To unblock & open your third eye & crown chakras is to open yourself up to higher levels of living. Not in having more money, friends, or things, but a genuine understanding of your purpose and a happiness in it. Spiritual solace is draped in purple of varying shades.

Purple is a rare occurrence in nature – take time to stop and admire the wildflowers, smell the lavender which grow up from the dirt because they are few & far between. If there isn’t already, make sure to bring something purple into your home. A crystal, blanket, pictures, book, anything really, that you can connect with and spend a moment being open with yourself. They say that things only have power if we believe in them, and I firmly believe in the power of purple. I keep it with me almost all of the time.

One moment in the Twigs’ homes & you’ll immediately see the importance of purple in our lives. It’s a calm, happy color that we need after living through stressful days. We use it to relax and reconnect after being surrounded by the strong red & orange energies which inherently surround us.
How does purple make you feel? Are you drawn to it? Is it just not your jam? We would love to hear your thoughts on this!

Thanks for reading our brief rundown of our favorite color (next to black, of course) !

Magical World of Incense

Incense

Incense is used for a number of reasons. Burn it to promote magical workings, mask an unpleasant smell you just can’t find in the house, or use it simply because you enjoy the lavish smell it gives off.
Certain incense help daily tasks move smoother. I find myself reaching for vanilla during the day as I  work on new creations, or when deep in writing. It gives me a calm, yet focused mind to stay on task.
Incense will enhance certain feelings. When the sun sets the smell of Dragon’s Blood or  Black Crystal soaks my skin. These two incense give me a feeling of mystery & witchy vibes. The blanket of stars sets the mood while the enchanting smoke from Dragon’s Blood or Black Crystal seal in the unknown magical surprises night offers.

I hope this gives a little insight into the magical world of incense, as it has a 70’s hippie reputation. There is so much more to it than that, & not just a means to hide that weed stench you’re dying to hide. 😉

Use this list to help guide you to the right incense for the purpose you seek.
Coconut. Use this incense when you need a little mental balance, a dash of courage, or when feel your intuition might need a boost.

You might want to grab the Patchouli incense when you want to attract something or someone to you. It is wonderful when inducing a bit of creativity, grounding, & prosperity. Patchouli is known for sexual energy. Use it when you intend to attract some love, passion or sensuality. Bring the vixen or fox out in yourself with this sexy scent.

Sandalwood is a very popular incense! But, did you know you can use it to bring awareness, balance & concentration to your environment? Sandalwood calms your environment.  Use when banishing unwanted energies & the area or tool needs purifications. It helps to remove negativity & protects the area giving a sense of well-being.

White Sage is another well-known incense in the witchy world. Burning the herb in a bundle style is the most well-known use. I love the scent the burnt herb gives off. If you ask my mother, she will disagree, finding it unappealing. White Sage incense is definitely different. It gives off a sweeter smell & for the vast population, more pleasant than that of the herb.
Use either form when you need grounding. It is ideal for any magical workings. Bring protection, purification & comfort into your environment. Clear the mind while insight will creep in as the smoke swirls around the room.

Lavender is well-known. Using it as an incense promotes the known stress & anxiety properties many people seek. This lavender smoke brings clarity, general healing, & a kind sensitivity. Light a stick as you are getting ready for bed to promote a restful sleep. All the wonderful things you’ve heard about the essential oil or herb will translate into the use of an incense stick.

Rose. Ah, the romantic rose. All things love surround this beautiful flower, & for good reason.
Rose is known to attract affection. It holds secrets of love, gives off huge amounts of sexual energy. Burn this romantic incense on date night. Light a stick before you get dressed for the night out, then light another while entertaining & having drinks after dinner.

Vanilla will balance the emotions. It will bring in a calm focused mind & help promote concentration. Burning this incense can spark some inspiration in just the way you need it. Let the smoke wrap around you & feel its powerful passion.

Last but not least is Jasmine.
Jasmine flower is closely associated with the moon. Burn this floral aroma when playing with Luna. <3
Let imagination swirl around while harmony dances with romance. A very mystic smell bringing in all things light.

The list goes on my friend.  Now, grab your favorite box of incense, play with the feelings it gives you. Use your intuition & focus on the power of the smoke floating around.

Give me a reason to end this discussion, to break with tradition, to fold & divide.

“A sign of growth is being okay with not being okay.”

Let that quote sit with you for a moment.

For most humans, being out of their element or comfort space is simply unacceptable.
A day to day routine is set & never ventured from. A sudden rustle of those feathers & the chickens fly the coupe. I understand that feeling, my friend. Boy, do I get it.

Throw me out of my quiet, calm bubble & the madness inside me becomes overwhelming. After some fight, a bit of pouting & the ever famous ‘resting bitch face’, I settle into unknown territory & make myself comfortable in the craziness surrounding me.

Over the last 3-4 years, my life has been an ever moving, set down a finished task to be reaching for the next kinda pace. I don’t think I’ve had time to blink more than 10 times! I firmly hated the lifestyle I now live to the fullest. 5 years ago, this was not me in any form. I was much more of the “eh, it will get done when it gets done” or “I just don’t feel like it” kinda girl. I laugh at that at this very moment, my life would certainly not wait for me to get off my lazy ass & do it when I actually felt like it.
Let me tell you, the first day of the last 4 years was ungodly uncomfortable for me. I was NOT okay with not being okay. Overwhelmed was an understatement & I wore it like a leather jacket. I didn’t know how to manage one stress freak out to the next emotional meltdown. I had no idea how to live in such an unfamiliar state that I sunk before I even thought of swimming. I couldn’t tell you when it actually clicked, and I remembered those long forgotten swimming lessons, but I did. I spit out the inhaled water, wash the taste of salt from my mouth & dried my hair.

When I look back on everything I’ve come face to face with over the years, 9 times out of 10 I wasn’t okay. I’ve been knocked down more times than I care to admit. But, I certainly grew in those painful times. To my distaste, I thrive in uncomfortable, not okay situations of life. When everything is, in my definition not oh fucking kay, those are the moments I grow deep & strong.

When faced with uneasy situations in life you have two options, throw your hands up & let life roll you over OR you push back & show not being okay is okay!
Take your time, throw a toddler level fit for a minute. Then darling, dust yourself off, throw your head back & laugh at the mess you let yourself become & grow your roots deep in the lessons you’ve learned. <3

While Mercury Naps.

As of yesterday, Mercury has snuggled up for a 2 week nap. Most retrogrades don’t draw my attention as soon as this one did. The effects took hold of me fast & hard just hours after! After the day I’ve had thus far, I thought it might be nice to write about this crazy time.

This curious wonder is one of the few that affects everyone in a fairly uniform way, and the effects are always obvious.
Keeping track of the retrogrades and journaling during this time will bring attention to how events in your life change or get a little more stressful. You’ll then be able to avoid some of the frustrations.

2018 Retrogrades;
March 22 – April 15 (Aries; fire)
July 26 – August 18 (Leo; fire / Scorpio; water)
November 16 – December 6 (Sagittarius; fire / Scorpio; water)

Why do these retrogrades happen you ask? Well, when a planet retrogrades, it is in a resting or sleeping state. While Mercury naps, activities that it governs don’t have the benefit of a well-functioning, awake planet to supervise them.
Mercury rules all types of communication, all formal contracts & agreements, & important documents. When this planet retrogrades, these areas tend to spin a bit out of control.
Think of this time as an instant signal that the wind is changing direction. Something is in flux, but the problem is, everything looks the same. Not seeing this big of a change can certainly throw anyone for a loop.

Each year Mercury will favor one element over another.

Fire: apply new, visionary, & innovative solutions to a problem that comes up.
Fire signs are highly creative & also brave & pioneering – don’t be shy about suggesting a very unusual solution. Fire signs also think on a big, broad scale, so you should think that way when attacking problems.

Water: use your intuition.
Research can be driven by the way questions are asked. If your research says to go one way, but your intuition tells you to reject the research, follow your gut.
Intellect can only get us so far; often our emotional intelligence is more accurate.
When Mercury retrogrades in a water sign, it’s an instant signal to start listening to that small voice within.

An interesting fact for those who were born under a Mercury retrograde… YOU’RE IMMUNE from much of the mayhem! Now, if that is the truth, I’m not sure. I, unfortunately, wasn’t born under a Mercury retrograde & feel most of the negative effects while this planet is sleeping.
Those born under this phase are said to have philosophical & reflective natures that help them think through complex situations with ease.

It can’t all be bad right?! Mercury naps can, in fact, be useful.
Mercury rules anything that begins with “re”: redo, reassess, repair, repeat, revisit.
Instead of chasing a crazy new path, revisit an old one with focused eyes. You might see something you didn’t the first time. Be thorough & perfect your performance.
Sometimes we speed through life without taking in what actually took place right in front of our eyes. Mercury retrograde is a time to stop, look, listen & redirect energies in a productive path.
We can all benefit from taking a closer look at situations with a deeper care. Mercury retrograde periods are like walking through glue, they slow us down. Being slowed down a bit might just be what you need at this moment.

This could be the time you finally organize your files or a neglected closet that you avoid opening at all costs.
Keep your hands busy with something positive to help ease your mind when dealing with the extra stress. You may find lost treasures you’d long forgotten!

She was a bit like spring; wild as the wind & fickle as the weather.

Yesterday was the first day of spring.
A pale grey hung from the clouds, the wind was something straight out of Oz & a high of 30 something. The perfect setting for spring, right?

This morning I sat upright facing my big beautiful window, eyes still closed. Upon peeling my eyes wide open I was in disbelief. A glittering white blanket sat on top of everything.

The grass is not green, it’s not even grass at all. The beautiful oak trees still stand naked and sad. Tulip buds? They are still in a deep winter’s slumber.
Gloom still clings deep inside my bones.

After laying The Sun card down as my first card a tiny smile played on the corner of my lips. It simply reminded me spring IS coming. She’s running a little late this year. She might have spent a little extra time wrapped up in a wonderful book. But she’s on her way to me.

Let this beautiful card be a reminder to keep pushing on those grey days. They won’t last forever, it simply can’t snow forever my love.

That pesky Aries Moon

That pesky Aries moon..

Waxing Crescent

In all honesty, I have not been immune to the high tension brought on by the waxing crescent in Aries. The universe has been heavy, responsibilities are mounting. I’ve done a few readings within this particular time frame and have had similar outcomes; even my cards can feel the extra weight. And yes, we do harbor a great deal of discretion in reading our cards intuitively, but when both you and your cards are in a funk, readings can be a little perplexing for the already scattered brain. The aforementioned inherently concludes a lack of “spare” time in which to sit down and ground yourself, focus your thoughts, and free your spirit. This means that you have to find the time and the place – the atmosphere will not simply hand it to you. So I am no exception. My brain map has been a tangled web and my thoughts have been twirling recklessly. I have been overworked and under the weather creatively. The moon and universal vibrations are clearly not alone at fault for these factors being as they are. There are a few much less organic contributions to my stoic nature being tested – the things I can control – I think we’ve talked about this before – and I am still learning to take the reins despite myself.

Being born on the waxing crescent myself, I know that in these pressing times is when I shine. I was born to withstand the lightning storms in order to enjoy and embrace the clear skies. It’s what my entire existence has been and certainly why I’m made of quiet bravado and unambiguous bullheadedness. I would not have that any other way.

The really good news is, tonight we transition into Taurus and the Spring Equinox is upon us (Ostara, if you will)! This time is so incredibly welcomed right now. This phase provides a beautiful time to grow, to restart. Make plans in which to follow through with. Start a project you’ve been putting off. Make decisions that will make a difference in your pursuits. Now is the time. Be fertile, adventurous, curious, and dominant. Embrace discomfort and struggle and accept these feelings as a challenge to get through to clear skies. If you need to cry it out, write it out, shout it out, work it out, create it out, whatever it is you might need to do, do it. Rid yourself of it…

And then wake up tomorrow to a brand new day. Accept and embrace the changes you’ve promised to make within yourself and in your environment. Keep yourself safe and protected, of course, but let your hair down for the ride. You were created for more than the stress and the mundane – you are beautiful and unique and as powerful as you believe you are. Let the beginning of Spring be the beginning of more than just a season for you.

Waxing Crescent

I promise to try if you will.

Elemental Happiness

Elemental Happiness

“Don’t dismiss the elements. Water soothes and heals. Air refreshes and revives. Earth grounds and holds. Fire is a burning reminder of our own will and creative power. Swallow their spells. There’s a certain sweet comfort in knowing that you belong to them all.”

Elemental Happiness

So when I woke up this morning my own energy had me befuddled. It began when I hit my snooze button FOUR times; an unheard of series of actions perpetuated by the swipe of my own finger. I am one of those people who firmly believe that the first moments of your morning can affect the continuation of your day, and this was quite a destructive start. Running 30 minutes late, my coffee maker had already done it’s job by freshly brewing my morning coffee at 6:00 a.m., precisely the moment my feet typically hit the floor. My coffee is now barely room temperature & I avoid a microwave like the plague. I drink it begrudgingly. I go upstairs to wake my son up. He is immediately aware, via the light shining in through his window, that we are running at least 24 minutes late and he is no happy camper. “Seriously, mom? I hardly have time to make waffles now”. Okay. I need a shower but I’m running low on time. It was 60 & sunny yesterday but this morning it’s 30 & snowing. I’m feeling groggy and flighty at once; I am befuddled all about myself.

Upon returning home from the snowy drive to school, I’m tempted to continue on with an attitude. Indeed, I was being lured into the dark side of a single bad morning. My natural inclination when feeling this way is to take myself outside and plant my feet into the grass. I am an Earth sign;  unapologetically & intimately pulled toward my element. On this particular morning, however, the grass is blanketed in freezing absurdity. I needed to find elemental happiness while my earth was snowed-in & my air was painfully bitter.

That’s just fine. Totally fine, until I’m reminded that I have less than 1 hour before I have to be at work, leaving my desire for a milk & tea bath utterly unfulfilled. I’ve exhausted all options but one; the one I have historically been least likely to experiment with… Fire.

It’s not that fire doesn’t appeal to me. It is without question the most exciting, the warmest & most vibrant of all elements. Perhaps all those years of being told “don’t play with fire” had taken its toll on my now-adult subconscious. I have 35 minutes to spare – “Why not?” I asked myself.

See, candles & fire are a very common tool in my witch’s cupboard. I make oils, meditate, read cards & bathe by candlelight. I hadn’t, though, forged a genuine relationship with that candlelight, until this morning that is.

I reach the third floor where my sanctuary awaits me. I begin grabbing candles of all shapes, sizes & colors and pooling them together on the floor (where candle wax is already abundant) & follow up by grabbing some of the more grounding stones to keep nearby. I had formulated no method of which colors to use; I was not doing spell work & I had no intentions aside from “un-befuddling”. I light a chime candle & use it to light the others, one by one. Purple, green, orange, black, tealight, red, white, black, another purple, this weird mustard colored one that seldom gets any action and so on. I then commenced to playing with fire in ways I never had before. Keeping mind of where every strand of my hair is while knelt down before this infantry line of natural light, I watch the flames keenly. The one on the far East end dances mambo, the purple one in the middle is the strongest & warmest. I stroke my fingers through the flames & grow accustomed to my soft human skin being tested. Within a matter of moments, this element that I previously had no relationship with started to feel like a dear, old flickering friend. I was so enamored by my discovery that I spent a little too much time (I probably had time for that bath..) but only ended up being about 3 minutes late to work. Three very worth it minutes.

The important fact is that by the time I arrived at work I was no longer befuddled. There was a calm over me. I felt neither groggy nor flighty; I felt good. Taking that moment to slow down and connect with an unfamiliar element was unknowingly needed. It wasn’t quite as good as sitting in a lavender field or taking a nap in a tree, but Fire was there when Earth was unavailable to me, and it was an endeavor well worth experimentation.

Is there a particular element that you feel drawn to? As I mentioned earlier, I am naturally drawn to Earth but am also exuberantly joyful about water and have always maintained a level of comfort in and around water. I usually think of fire as this force of loud and vivacious energy; capable of tearing down that which it comes into contact with. We have learned to use fire in spell work where an energetic spirit is needed or passions are sought after.. when you need strength, power, and aggressiveness. I’m delighted to know, however, that it doesn’t have to be loud and vivacious all of the time. The lonely flame of one candle burns so slowly and graciously. I feel that we could all learn something from getting to better know the elements which constantly surround us while we wander along unaware. It’s quite likely that it sounds ridiculous to say that I played with candles for 30 minutes and completely turned my day around – but have you tried it? Sometimes you just need to take a moment to yourself to reconnect with yourself, however it may work for you. That might mean a date in the dirt, a long, deep breath of fresh air, a relaxing bath (or swim), or putting your hands in fire. It’s your call, but find elemental happiness. Find connectedness. Play with the elements & get to know them better. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship.
